During the
post match interview after the team’s 1-0 loss to University of Eldoret in
Eldoret on Sunday, the inevitable question for head coach Ologi arose; what
next for Moi?
His answer
was text book stuff.
“We have a
slim chance of still going through to the finals, so our aim now is still to
win the two remaining games we have and then see what happens after that”.
Seemingly
almost embarrassed by the nature of his first answer, he continued. “The
regional tournament is also not too far away, and that will be the main focus
of our attentions in the coming days”. He added.
On the
evidence of the two matches he has been in charge of, against UoE where he lost
by a solitary goal and against Egerton where the team also lost by the same
margin, it does not look good. The players showed no creativity, guile, and
defended badly. It was not a good introduction to a watching public.
For one, the
team has to be exposed to training camps as well as playing a lot of
competitive friendly games. The signs of players not knowing each other and
zero cohesion were a plenty in the two matches, and without competitive
matches, this will not improve.
It is no
coincidence that the best performing teams in the tournament play each other
often to gauge their levels, and the fact that our team are devoid of that is a
reminder of why they are not performing to the required standards.
